I no longer believe in self control. Well, I no longer believe in relying on it. Time and time again, I have watched others and myself fail when it comes to restraint.
If the brownie is sitting on the counter, it is going to be eaten. If the ice cream is in the freezer, there is nothing stopping you from chowing down when desire strikes. If the TV is in the room, it will distract you from work. We all tend to act on impulse.
Rather than put yourself in a position where self control is a necessity, focus on life structuring. Do not buy the brownies and ice cream in the first place. Avoid staying home to work; go to a coffee shop. Leave your phone behind to avoid the temptation of partying. Structure your life so that the opportunity to fail never arises.
