The Anonian

Experienced authors almost never have writer’s block because they have methods that work for them. And so should you.

Here are some tried and true ways to keep those words coming:

  • Write like you talk. When you write in the same manner that you speak, the words are endless. The legendary Seth Godin is even a strong advocate of this one. Oh, and if you feel uncomfortable writing the in the same style you speak, then perhaps change the way you speak.
  • Expand on points already made. Picking a topic that you feel strongly enough about can be a real challenge. The best method I have found so far is to read through my previous writings, pick a subject that I mentioned, and expand on it. For example, if you write an article about going to the gym and mention the importance of a proper diet, expand on that mentioning.
  • Keep a list. This is probably one of the most underused techniques out there. I have had so many days that ideas on what to write were flowing like a river. However, I never wrote them down, always telling myself that I would remember them later. I never do. These days I make sure to write them down.
  • Ask somebody. The most successful people rose to the top by learning to utilize their resources. If you are ever truly stumped and need a helping hand, reach out to somebody. It really does help.
